DVC ASA OFFICE OVERVIEW

The Deputy Vice Chancellor – Academic and Student Affairs heads the academic programmes and faculties DVC ASA oversight all academic policies, programs and academic support services. The DVC ASA reports to the Vice Chancellor. Under the current Garissa University university structure, the following officers report directly to the Deputy Vice Chancellor – Academic and Student Affairs.

Key Responsibilities  of DVC ASA according to Garissa University Statute VII-B;

  1. Oversight responsibility for Faculties/Schools, central Core facilities and faculty support, and in that capacity shall deal with policy matters pertaining to admission of students, learning and teaching processes, examinations, academic staff planning and development, academic staff recruitment, training appraisal, academic quality assurance, and student development services (mentoring, student health, attachment and internship, career services);
  2. Providing leadership in planning for academic resources and having oversight responsibility for the University’s academic development strategy and policy regarding student quality and demographics, staff development, programme development, learning and teaching, examinations, academic information resources, student discipline, academic staff discipline;
  3.  Overseeing students’ activities: sports, clubs and societies, Student Council;
  4.  Overseeing and monitoring the performance of Registrar’s Office; Dean of Students; Deans of Schools, Faculties or Institutes; Strategy and QualityAssurance; Library Services and Mentoring Services.
  5.  Ensuring adherence to The Constitution of Kenya 2010 and to the prevailing Public Procurement and Disposal Act and Procedures.
